"What's in the Bag?" Now is a time that is crucial for students to visit one of the most feared professions “THE DOCTOR.” To help ease some of that fear, LMU Osteopathic College of Medicine and School Health Coordinator, Richie Hoskins, introduced Springdale Elementary’s first grade students to a new program called, “WHAT’S IN THE BAG.” This program is designed to help ease the fears of students which may need to visit doctors or hospitals. Students that attend LMU’s Osteopathic College of Medicine dressed in doctor’s attire and with a few manipulatives, visited Springdale Elementary on October 29th. With teacher supervision, students were placed into small groups and the soon to be medical members were on to their task. They began with introductions and then proceeded to remove items which a doctor or nurse needs for administering routine health procedures. Students were allowed to view and ask questions about items a doctor or nurse uses. It was amazing to hear some of the questions students asked, and how these medical students helped to ease some of the pressures that children face when visiting a doctor or hospital. A special thank you goes to LMU’s Osteopathic College of Medicine and School Health Coordinator, Richie Hoskins, for presenting this program to our 1st grade students. Grandparents Celebrate Learning at Springdale ElementaryIn honor of Grandparents, Springdale Elementary School’s first grade students and teachers invited Grandparents to attend school on September 11th, for special recognition in helping to enhance their grandchild’s learning process. Upon arrival, Grandparents were greeted with refreshments in the school cafeteria while they enjoyed the company of their grandchild or grandchildren. After refreshments, grandparents, students, and teachers proceeded to the first grade classrooms where students had prepared special cards and treats for their grandparents. While in the classrooms, grandparents were able take pictures, view student’s work, visit with teachers, and view the classroom setting. A special thank you to all grandparents that help educators make a difference.
