Mission Statement:

The mission of Forge Ridge School is to enable students academically to be productive, responsible citizens.

Our Vision:

The vision of Forge Ridge School is to provide all students an educational foundation for a lifetime of learning to realize their fullest potential. FRS' vision also includes the desire to be recognized as an academically successful school, educating the whole child.

Forge Ridge School Beliefs:

1. All children have the potential to learn.

2. Students must demonstrate responsibility by being actively engaged in the learning process.

3. Students learn best when exposed to a varity of scientifically research based instructional strategies.

4. Since students learn in different ways, instructional assessments and strategies that accommodate learning differences must be implemented.

5. Schools should provide a safe, healthy, caring environment for learning.

6. The shared responsibility of decision making regarding school policies must reflect the best interest of FRS students, staff, and community.

7. Parents, community, and school personnel, communicating and working together with students, will increase learning.

8. Schools should be for the benefit of the children.

Forge Ridge School History:

The four-room brick that was to be the beginning of Forge Ridge School was built in 1928. A.H. Hill donated the land, and some citizens and community members gave $100.00, while still others donated their labor. This building housed the elementary grades 1-8 and a high school. It is now where grades Pre-School-3 are located. The neighboring building houses the Kindergarten classroom. The stone building that is on campus was built in 1940-1941. It was once used as the cafeteria, but is now our library. The gymnasium building was built in 1952 and houses the gym, middle school Social Studies and Science departments, Guidance Office and additional classrooms. As enrollment increased, so did the need for more space. The building that currently houses additional middle school classrooms was built in 1974, and an addition was completed in 1978. It contains the Speech Office, the Math and Language Arts department, and the Special Education departments. The Computer Lab was built in 1983, and the cafeteria and office area was built in 1988.

In the fall of 2003, Cumberland Gap High School opened, which combined our high school and Powell Valley High School. Forge Ridge currently has a K-8th grade distribution of 235 students.
